Maintenance and Public Safety
The Airport is a complicated environment that requires around-the-clock care to ensure efficient and safe travel for the users and tenants of the airport. The airport complex is much like a small city with a variety of infrastructure to constantly expand and maintain. The Airport Maintenance Department maintains all airport-owned buildings, roads, landscaping, equipment and airfield surfaces. In addition, the Maintenance Personnel are all trained as first responders to any emergencies that may occur. Led by the Superintendent of Operations, five Maintenance Personnel and one Mechanic complete the large array of tasks it takes to keep the airport in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in all weather conditions.
Public Safety
The Airport Public Safety Department is responsible for overall safety and security functions at the airport. In addition, the Public Safety Department conducts safety and security checks of the airport to ensure the airport is safe and secure and all activities are conducted with the highest level of safety.

Airport Fire Rescue
Although Air Travel is one of the safest means of transportation in the world today, it is essential that airports remain proficient in the ability to respond to fires and aircraft emergencies. All Airport Staff are trained as first responders to ensure the highest level of safety to the traveling public. This effort is also supported through a partnership with the Montana Army National Guard by providing personnel to work at the Helena Airport Fire Station with Airport staff to provide fire protection services on the airport. In addition, the Helena Airport recently purchased two new Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Vehicles and related equipment to increase its ability to ensure safety for tenants, passengers and aviators.
Custodial and Building Maintenance
Three Airport Custodians work rotating shifts to ensure the terminal and other airport buildings are clean and inviting to the users of the airport. Additionally all custodial staff are trained as first responders to enhance the level of safety for the general public and users of the airport.
